Tykes pair poised for debuts
Barnsley summer signings Jean-Yves Mvoto and Lewin Nyatanga could both be included in the starting line-up against Wigan.
Mvoto, whose contract at Oldham expired in June, is hoping to make his debut against theFA Cup holders, while Nyatanga, who had three loan spells at Oakwell six years ago, may line-up alongside the Frenchman in defence.
Dale Jennings, another summer arrival following his release from Bayern Munich, is expected to be included in the squad, but fellow midfielders Kelvin Etuhu and Paul Digby have both been ruled out.
Etuhu is struggling with a hamstring strain and teenager Digby has a calf problem, while manager David Flitcroft has no other injury or suspension worries.
FA Cup holders Wigan will begin their quest to return to the Premier League.
Latics have undergone something of a transformationsince their relegation in May, with Owen Coyle replacing Roberto Martinez as manager. Arouna Kone, Antolin Alcaraz and Joel Robles have followed Martinez to Everton but Grant Holt, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Scott Carson have come in.
Coyle is unsure whether Honduras defender Juan Carlos Garcia will play as he only arrived in England on Thursday while fellow new recruit Thomas Rogne is nursing a back injury, but Leon Barnett could start after arriving from Norwich.
Winger Callum McManaman is also a doubt given he has barely featured in pre-season due to an ankle injury.
