Marley Watkins is a doubt for Barnsley

Barnsley midfielder Marley Watkins is doubtful for the home game against Walsall.

Summer signing Watkins is struggling with the knock that forced him out of Saturday's defeat at Southend. Either Sam Winnall or Simeon Jackson could return to the starting line-up if he fails to make it.

Conor Hourihane has been ruled out for at least a month after missing out at the weekend due to a grade one tear in a hamstring.

Midfielder Ben Pearson could be rested after returning to the starting line-up on Saturday after a bout of tonsillitis and winger Ryan Williams (groin) is still working his way back to full fitness.

Walsall are sweating on the fitness of a key trio ahead of their trip to Oakwell.

Midfielder Sam Mantom, left-back Andy Taylor and keeper Neil Etheridge all suffered injuries in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield.

Mantom came off with an ankle sprain, Taylor is struggling with a knee injury while Etheridge needed stitches to his knee following a collision with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

But centre-back James O'Connor is expected to return after missing the weekend loss with a groin injury.
