Mvoto out for Tykes

Barnsley will be without suspended defender Jean Yves Mvoto for their home Capital One Cup clash with Southampton.

The Frenchman was shown a straight red card for bringing down Jordan Rhodes during the weekend defeat at Blackburn and will start a three-game ban, so Jim McNulty or Lewin Nyatanga, fit again after a hamstring injury, could feature for the first time this season.

Norway international Marcus Pedersen is expected to be handed his full debut after stepping off the substitutes' bench on Saturday, while fellow new signing Paddy McCourt is hoping to make his first appearance.

Midfielder Kelvin Etuhu made his first start at the weekend following a hamstring injury and should continue, but defender Martin Cranie (knee) remains sidelined.

Record signing Dani Osvaldo could make his first Southampton start.

The Italy international striker was a substitute in the weekend draw with Sunderland but could be given the nod from the off at Oakwell.

Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is struggling for fitness and may miss out, while full-back Luke Shaw has a knee problem and Nathaniel Clyne stands by.

Having seen Swansea and Wigan triumph in cup competitions last term, Mauricio Pochettino's side will look to follow in those footsteps when their campaign kicks off at Oakwell.

"Last time we were there we won 1-0, a good memory," defender Jose Fonte said.

"I know it is a hard, hard ground. I played there many times. I know it is going to be hard but we need to go there with the mentality of winning because we want to have a go in the cups as well.

"We want to win every game we are involved in because we have the team for that.

"We have 23, 24 excellent players so the manager will pick a strong team and we will go there to win."
