Holgate harbours Reds hope

Barnsley teenager Mason Holgate is hoping to recover from a hamstring injury in time to face derby rivals Sheffield United.

Holgate missed last week's draw at Bristol City and boss Lee Johnson is "hopeful" the defender will be in contention.

Goalkeeper Adam Davies (abdomen) also missed out last week and remains doubtful, so that could mean a home debut for on-loan Sheffield Wednesday teenager Joe Wildsmith.

Midfielder Paul Digby and goalkeeper Ross Turnbull (back) remain sidelined, while on-loan Crystal Palace defender Peter Ramage (calf) is pushing for a recall to the squad as Barnsley bid to climb back into the top six.

Sheffield United could be boosted by the return of both Stefan Scougall and Jay McEveley.

Midfielder Scougall has been sidelined since early February with a knee injury but completed an hour for the Under-21s this week, while former Barnsley defender McEveley has missed the last three games due to a shoulder problem.

Barnsley-born defender Terry Kennedy will play no part. He returned to action with the Under-21s this week following a knee injury and was withdrawn due to a groin strain.

Goalkeeper Mark Howard is nursing a back complaint but is expected to be fit, while striker Matt Done and midfielder Michael Doyle are both pushing for recalls.
