Conor Hourihane a doubt for Barnsley

Barnsley captain Conor Hourihane is an injury doubt for the home game against Newcastle.

Hourihane missed Saturday's home defeat due to a calf strain and is awaiting scan results, while fellow midfielder Josh Scowen begins a three-game ban for his straight red card at the weekend.

On-loan striker Adam Armstrong is ineligible to face his parent club and defender Aidy White (gluteal muscle), Saidy Janko (thigh) and fellow winger Ryan Williams (groin) all remain sidelined.

The Reds have lost four of their last five league games and are chasing a first win in six.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez hopes to have skipper Jamaal Lascelles at his disposal as the Magpies attempt to leapfrog leaders Norwich with a fourth successive win.

The central defender left the pitch an hour into Saturday's 3-1 home victory over Brentford complaining of feeling weak, but he is expected to be available.

Winger Matt Ritchie sat out the game with a virus but he too will return to contention, while striker Daryl Murphy could also figure after overcoming a calf problem.

Goalkeeper Rob Elliot is back in training following a long-term knee injury, although the game will come too soon for him.
