Tykes duo sit out Town test

Barnsley will be without suspended pair Jacob Mellis and Emmanuel Frimpong for the home game against former fans' favourite Mick McCarthy's Ipswich.

Both Mellis and fellow midfielder Frimpong, a permanent deadline-day signing from Arsenal, were sent off in last week's derby defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, the latter on his debut.

Another January signing, Liam Lawrence, is hoping to make his first start in midfield after two substitute appearances and Bobby Hassell (calf) could return to contention, while Stephen Dawson, Tomasz Cywka and Jim O'Brien are among those pushing for recalls.

The Reds, second from bottom and five points from safety, have won only one of their last nine league matches.

Cole Skuse and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake have returned to full training ahead of Ipswich's trip but Luke Hyam remains a doubt.

Midfielder Skuse was forced off in the first half of last weekend's 1-0 victory over Bolton having suffered concussion, while striker Ebanks-Blake sustained a hamstring injury on his debut at the start of January - meaning Town will not want to take any risks with his return.

Hyam, meanwhile, has missed the last three games due to a badly-cut knee which is affecting his flexibility, although he is closing in on a return.

Stephen Hunt, who is battling to overcome a groin problem, and Frank Nouble will hope to keep their starting berths having been recalled against the Trotters.
