Mellis set for Tykes recall

Barnsley midfielder Jacob Mellis will return to contention for the home game against Derby following suspension.

Mellis missed the Boxing Day defeat to Bolton after reaching five yellow cards for the season, but could be one of several changes as boss Danny Wilson bids for his first win since returning to take charge.

Goalkeeper Luke Steele (hip) was back against Bolton after a three-month injury lay-off as Jack Butland has been recalled by parent club Stoke, while defender Lewin Nyatanga, rested after recently returning from a calf injury, could be recalled.

Winger Paddy McCourt is another player pushing for a recall after he played the last 21 minutes on Boxing Day following a hamstring injury.

Derby hope midfielders Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick will be available for the game.

Hughes was replaced after 76 minutes of the 1-1 draw at Huddersfield due to a groin problem while Hendrick missed the Boxing Day fixture because of a bout of concussion.

Zak Whitbread was on the bench as an unused substitute in west Yorkshire after recovering from a calf injury and his return is a timely boost for head coach Steve McClaren with skipper Richard Keogh out for around a month with a knee injury.

McClaren also has the likes of Johnny Russell, Conor Sammon, Mason Bennett, Kalifa Cisse and Kieron Freeman available should he wish to make any changes to his starting line up against the Tykes.
