Barnsley V Derby at Oakwell Stadium : Match Preview

31 January 2012 15:30
Barnsley's new signings Michael Tonge and Korey Smith are expected to be included in the squad for the home game with Derby.

Tonge, who has signed on loan from Stoke until the end of the season, and fellow midfielder Smith, on loan from Norwich for an initial month, are both short of match fitness and may have to settle for a place among the substitutes.

Winger Jim O'Brien remains sidelined with the groin problem that has kept him out since Boxing Day and skipper Jacob Butterfield is out for the rest of the season following surgery to repair cruciate knee ligament damage.

Manager Keith Hill, who has no new injury or suspension problems, could find a place in his squad again for midfielder Alastair Taylor, who made his first appearance of the season in the 3-1 home defeat to Millwall in the Tykes' last match.

Ryan Noble returns to contention for Derby, while Nathan Tyson could also be pushing for a start.

However, fellow forward Theo Robinson is still a doubt and could remain on the sidelines.

Noble, on loan from Sunderland, was ineligible against Stoke in the FA Cup on Saturday but Tyson managed 12 minutes as a substitute at the end of the fourth-round tie on his latest comeback from the groin injury that has plagued his season.

Leading scorer Robinson missed the visit of Stoke with a calf problem he sustained in the goalless draw at Burnley nine days ago and he will continue to be assessed.

Highly-rated England Under-19 midfielder Tom Carroll is expected to be included in the squad after arriving on loan from Tottenham on Monday.
