Barnsley relegated after Boro loss

Barnsley were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship after losing 3-1 at Middlesbrough.

Danny Wilson's side had to win to avoid joining bottom club Yeovil, beaten at play-off chasing Brighton on Friday, in League One next season.

Defender Jean Yves Mvoto (53) gave the Tykes hope, but it was short lived as Lee Tomlin equalised within a minute. As the visitors went in search of victory, they were hit twice more on the break as Danny Graham (90) and then Tomlin, in stoppage time, wrapped things up for Boro.

Birmingham remain in deep trouble as they went down 3-1 at home to Leeds and dropped into the relegation zone.

Leeds struck twice midway through second half courtesy of goals from Matt Smith (58) and Danny Pugh (60), with an own goal by Blues defender Paul Caddis (78) putting pay to any hopes of a fightback. Federico Macheda (83) netted a late consolation for Lee Clark's men.

Blackpool gave their hopes of staying up a boost with a 2-0 win at promotion-hopefuls Wigan, with second-half goals from Andy Keogh (60) and Stephen Dobbie (70).

The Latics could have booked their place in the top six with a victory, but never really got going after Martyn Waghorn's penalty was saved midway through the first half.

Ipswich saw their play-off hopes ended after a 1-0 loss at promoted Burnley.

Mick McCarthy's side were left four points adrift of sixth place with one game remaining after Michael Kightly's goal (54) early in the second half proved enough to win it for the Clarets.

Nottingham Forest will also be playing in the Championship again next season after they lost 4-1 at Bournemouth, who now also cannot make the top six.

Lewis Grabban (47 & 70, pen) and Yann Kermorgant (43 & 90) both helped themselves to a brace for the Cherries, with Greg Halford (56) grabbing a consolation for Forest.

Blackburn are in eighth - three points behind Wigan, but having played a match more - after they won 3-1 at Charlton, who are two points off the drop zone.

Rudy Gestede (26) put Rovers ahead, and after Marvin Sordell saw his penalty saved by Paul Robinson, Gary Bowyer's men went on to secure victory with second-half goals from Michael Keane (51) and Tom Cairney (64).

Sordell did find the net on 54 minutes, but the Addicks could not get themselves back on level terms.

Watford's slim play-off hopes were ended by Derby's 4-2 win at the iPro Stadium.

Troy Deeney (5) put the visitors ahead, only for Jeff Hendrick (28) and Craig Forsyth (60) to turn the match around for the Rams.

The Hornets were down to 10 men when Marco Cassetti collected a second booking, but rallied to equalise through Mathias Ranegie (70).

Hendrick (81) cracked in a fine second goal to make it 3-2, with Chris Martin's 23rd goal of the campaign (86) securing victory for the play-off contenders.

Reading sneaked into fifth after t wo late goals from Pavel Pogrebnyak gave then a 3-1 win at Doncaster, who are still not safe.

Rovers took the lead through James Coppinger (25), before Adam Le Fondre (63) levelled from the penalty spot in the second half and Pogrebnyak struck twice (87 & 90) in the closing stages.

Champions Leicester chalked up 30 Championship wins to close on the 100-points barrier with a 2-0 victory at Huddersfield.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher, against his old club, (31) and skipper Wes Morgan (75) kept Nigel Pearson's side on course for treble figures.

Millwall kept themselves a point clear of the relegation zone when they snatched a 1-1 draw at QPR , who were already secure of a place in the top six.

Charlie Austin's penalty (77) looked to have secured victory for Harry Redknapp's side, only for Scott Malone to pounce in stoppage time.

Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 3-1 at home by Bolton.

Neil Danns (8), Lee Chung-yong (19) and Liam Trotter (29) got Dougie Freedman's men off to a flying start, before Joe Mattock (38) scored what proved to be a consolation goal for the hosts - all before half-time.
