Waring revels in Reds debut

George Waring scored on his professional debut to help Barnsley to a 2-0 victory over 10-man Yeovil.

The towering striker, on loan from Stoke, tapped home five minutes after half-time before Conor Hourihane's 70th-minute penalty sealed the victory for the Reds following the first-half dismissal of Glovers defender Ben Nugent.

Yeovil forward AJ Leitch-Smith dragged his shot wide when clear on goal in the 22nd minute before Nugent, on loan from Cardiff, saw red four minutes later for an adjudged elbow during a tangle with Waring.

Hourihane blasted wide when well placed on the half-hour mark, prior to Waring finishing from close range after Yeovil goalkeeper Jed Steer had failed to claim the ball while under pressure from Barnsley defender Mason Holgate.

Reds' top-scorer Hourihane claimed his 11th league strike of the season when he sent Steer the wrong way from the penalty spot after being brought down by the goalkeeper.

Bottom-of-the-table Yeovil offered little in response as they slipped to a fourth successive league defeat, leaving them five points from safety.
