Hemmings lifts Tykes

An early goal from Kane Hemmings handed Barnsley a 1-0 win over Oldham to make it a fourth straight home league victory for Danny Wilson's men.

Oldham threatened in the opening stages with Jonathan Forte chipping over the bar and Mike Jones sending a long-range effort wide.

Hemmings struck in the 12th minute, finding the net with an impressive finish after meeting a right-wing cross from Milan Lalkovic with a near-post volley.

Forte shot wide from just outside the area soon after the re-start while Barnsley's Josh Scowen tried a shot on the run which went wide.

Barnsley made an unsuccessful appeal for a penalty when Lalkovic went down in the area under a challenge from Joseph Mills.

Carl Winchester had a low shot easily saved by keeper Ross Turnbull as Oldham pressed for an equaliser and George Elokobi put an effort off target.

Barnsley's Conor Hourihane shot wide late on as Oldham missed a chance to move into the play-off places.
