A Look At The Weekend Action

Massive home derby victory gives Reds survival boost…..

……..A number of unwanted runs finally came to an end today.

The Reds managed to avoid setting a new club record of 12 home matches without victory. The 11 they had endured was a joint club record with the 1952-53 side.

This was the first time Barnsley have scored more than once in a game at Oakwell this season.

It was their first clean sheet in the league for 16 matches and their first at home since September.

It is also the first time they have been drawing 0-0 at half time since the 6th November.

The brace from Chris Dagnall were his first league goals for the club in his 26th appearance. Ironically the last time he scored for The Reds he also notched a brace in the 4-3 League Cup victory at Rochdale back in August.

Along with the 1-0 FA Cup win over Burnley last weekend it marks the first time they have achieved back to back wins since they followed up that Rochdale victory by defeating Middlesbrough 1-0 on the opening day of the league season.

It is the Reds third successive home win over Leeds and means they have lost just one of their last seven meetings with their West Yorkshire rivals.
