A Look At The Weekend Action

23 September 2012 19:35
One of the best Barnsley FC performances in years sees The Reds astonishingly rout Birmingham 5-0!.........

.........this result, whilst remarkable in its own right is even more unbelievable when you consider prior to the match Barnsley had lost all three away league games this season and 12 of the last 13 on the road, whilst Birmingham had lost only one league match at St Andrews in 13 months.

Also add to the mix, that Barnsley had not won at this ground for 12 years and had failed to score more than one goal in a game since February.

Striker Craig Davies became the first Reds player to score four in a single match since David Currie notched a quadruple in a 5-2 home over Bournemouth in November 1988.

It is the first time The Reds have scored five away from home since defeating Bradford 5-3 in the FA Cup in December 2005 and is the first  time they have won 5-0 away since March 1991 when they inflicted the same punishment on Wolves at Molineux.

It was also nice to see The Reds keep a clean sheet on their travels- their first on the road since August of last year.

The five goals also meant that Barnsley have still scored in every league game this season- their best run at the start of a campaign since they netted in the first eight league matches of 2006-2007. Barnsley are one of six Championship teams to have netted in every game of 2012-2013, the others being Leeds, Crystal Palace, Blackburn, Leicester and Nottingham Forest.
