24 April 2012 08:37
Barnsley Football Club are today celebrating the 100th anniversary of winning the FA Cup for the one and only time in the clubs history….

.Harry Tufnell’s solitary strike on the 24th April 1912 secured the trophy for Arthur Fairclough’s Reds after 12 gruelling matches.

The Reds went through six rounds but were taken to five replays- including three in their Fourth Round tie with Bradford, whilst their Final opponents- West Brom required just one- to see off Blackburn in the Semi-Finals.

Indeed Barnsley played 12 league and cup matches in April 1912- a record- as they chased a promotion and cup double (they eventually finished fifth in the Second Division), but they triumphed in the cup, two years after losing to Newcastle in the Final.
