Dale end wait for first win

Rochdale cruised to their first victory of the season as bottom of the table Barnet were beaten 2-0 at Spotland.

First-half goals from Ashley Grimes and veteran striker Dele Adebola consigned the Bees to another defeat.

John Coleman's team controlled the first half and were unfortunate not to score in the first few seconds when Grimes headed Andrew Tutte's cutback against the woodwork.

Grimes probably deserved the slice of luck that came with his 16th minute opener. George Donnelly scuffed a free-kick and the ball ran fortuitously to Grimes, who poked home from 10 yards.

The home side doubled their advantage after 33 minutes when Matt Pearson cut into the box and sent a low shot across the face of goal. The defender's effort was running wide, but striker Adebola diverted the ball home.

The Bees' only real threat came just before the interval when Andy Yiadom's cross from the left flank flew over home goalkeeper Josh Lillis and crashed against the woodwork.

Jake Hyde forced a save out of Lillis with a smart turn and shot, but Rochdale looked the more likely to add a third goal and went close when Adebola weaved his way round three defenders only to see Graham Stack save his shot.
