Furlong urged to go extra mile

Barnet boss Ian Hendon is hoping that Paul Furlong will play on for one more season.

The 40-year-old had been on loan at Underhill last season, scoring nine goals in 21 appearances for the Bees.

Southend United hold the former Chelsea striker's registration, but he is set to become a free agent at the end of June.

If Furlong does decide to play on for another year, Hendon is hoping that he will return to the League Two side.

"Paul's still under contract with Southend until the end of June and basically he's going to think about it over the summer before letting us know whether he's going to continue playing or not," said Hendon.

"He's at the stage of his career where his family are hoping to see a bit more of him than they do whilst he's a professional footballer, but Paul feels he can still bring something to the table as a player.

"We obviously agree with the latter, but it's up to him whether he wants to pack it in or not.

"I'd like to think that Barnet will get first option on him if he does opt to continue."
