Furlong to prolong career with Bees

The 40-year-old, who will also take up a coaching role with the Bees, scored nine goals in 21 games while on loan at Underhill last term and that was enough to convince boss Ian Hendon that he had another season left in him. He told the club's official website: "He (Furlong) wanted to do a pre-season after leaving Southend to prove that he was up to doing another year as a league player. I always said he could and he came through flying. "I'd like to thank Paul for his utmost honesty. He promised to sign for Barnet. He made it clear to me he wasn't going anywhere else, although other clubs were interested in him, even at League One level. "Paul has so much to offer and we are delighted to have someone around of his calibre. He is coming onto the coaching side but has signed foremost as a player."
