Fairclough backs referee's call

Barnet manager Paul Fairclough and referee Chris Sarginson believed the right decision was made in calling a halt to proceedings in the clash with Aldershot at half-time.Mark Marshall had fired the Bees into an eighth-minute lead before Anthony Charles levelled things up to set up an intriguing second period. However, the fans saw no such exciting finale after the game was a abandoned due to heavy fog."I was surprised by how quickly he (the referee) called it off but, in hindsight, he's made the right decision," said Fairclough.Referee Sarginson said: "I was really struggling in the last ten minutes. In the far corner, I couldn't see the linesman, he's given a corner at one point when I gave a throw in."He had his flag up for offside for a minute when I haven't seen him. A goal's come from it but we had to bring it back - it was becoming a farce. The players are onto me because they are struggling as well. It's half time, it's 1-1. It's the right time."I consulted both the managers and they were both superb. They bought into the decision and the skippers did as well. The assessor in the stands said he couldn't pick the match officials out, so from a spectator's point of view, these people have paid their money, it seems right to come back here and do it again when conditions are better."
