Barnet have brought in former Dagenham & Redbridge full-back Mark Rooney, as midfield star Mark Gower heads out to Southend United.

Twenty-five-year-old Rooney has moved to Underhill after two years with the Daggers, during which the Essex side suffered promotion heartbreak in both seasons.

Bees boss Martin Allen told the club's official website: "He has been a quality right-back in the Conference and he is hungry to improve with our squad.

"He comes to us with excellent references and is a good signing for Barnet."

Of Gower's imminent departure, Allen added: "I am disappointed to be losing a quality player, however, I am delighted for Mark that he is going back into League football.

"Mark has been a model pro on and off the field and has always conducted himself in exemplary fashion."
