John Akinde hits the winner for Barnet

John Akinde scored the winner from the penalty spot as Barnet dented Portsmouth's promotion push with a 1-0 victory.

The Bees' top-scorer rolled the ball into the bottom right corner four minutes before the break after being upended by Pompey defender Adam Webster.

Portsmouth, who slipped out of the Sky Bet League 2 play-off places following the defeat, came close to a second-half equaliser when Adam McGurk's powerful header from Ben Davies' right-wing cross was tipped over by Bees goalkeeper Jamie Stephens.

In a game of few chances, unmarked Pompey substitute Kal Naismith swept over from 12 yards following Marc McNulty's cutback just after the hour mark, while Webster saw a header saved by Stephens.

Paul Cook's men, cheered on by more than 1,300 away fans, were given five minutes of added-on time in which to find an equaliser but Barnet held on to leave the out-of-form visitors with only one win from their last six games.
