Plymouth's promotion hopes dented by Barnet

Promotion-chasing Plymouth suffered a setback as they were beaten 1-0 at mid-table Barnet.

The Pilgrims controlled possession at The Hive but went home empty-handed following a second-half strike from Bees captain Andy Yiadom.

Argyle forward Reuben Reid should have opened the scoring in the 24th minute but he shot wide after being played through by Graham Carey.

The visitors continued to have the better of the play and in the last of 14 minutes of first-half stoppage-time, added on following injuries to Plymouth pair Jordon Forster and Ryan Brunt, Pilgrims substitute Craig Tanner stung the palms of Barnet goalkeeper Jamie Stephens from distance.

Tanner tested Stephens again 11 minutes after the restart, cutting in from the right and unleashing a powerful drive from 20 yards which was beaten away.

Barnet had struggled to create anything going forward but made the breakthrough in the 69th minute.

John Akinde's pass found midfielder Yiadom in the box and he turned to curl the ball into the bottom-right corner past Pilgrims goalkeeper Luke McCormick.

Despite their overall dominance, Derek Adams' side never threatened an equaliser as they slipped to third place in League Two.
