Woodwork denies Barnet win over Cambridge United

Barnet hit the woodwork twice but had to settle for a 0-0 draw against League Two rivals Cambridge at The Hive.

The U's had an early penalty appeal turned down after Bira Dembele headed onto his arm but Barnet soon gained the upper hand in terms of territory.

Curtis Weston hit the bar after Michael Gash's header was cleared off the line and then tested Cambridge keeper Chris Dunn nine minutes later, a low effort from the Barnet captain forcing a full-length dive.

The hosts hit the woodwork again after 35 minutes, this time Dembele's header rattling the crossbar, but the two sides went in level at the break.

The second half continued as the first ended, with both teams looking one pass away from opening the scoring but dominating defences prevented clear sights on goal.

Barnet substitute Luke Gambin slammed his shot into the away end after John Akinde rolled his marker and Gash's header was cleared off the line but the hosts couldn't find a winner.
