Allen's conscience clear

Martin Allen insists he has not left Barnet in the lurch and the new Notts County manager expects his former club to remain in the Football League following his brief spell in charge.Allen left Underhill, where he had been assisting the Bees in their battle against relegation on a non-contract basis for the last three weeks, to sign a one-year rolling deal with Notts on Monday.During his stint Barnet drew with league leaders Chesterfield and beat Burton and Crewe."I haven't left them in the lurch," said Allen. "They were in the lurch when they were bottom of the league, now they have got seven points more than they did when I went there. They are in a good position now and they should stay up."I didn't really want to go. I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the call. I was very happy at Barnet, everything was set up for me to stay. But being a football manager is a job and my deal at Barnet was for five weeks - what do I do after that? I've got bills to pay and I`ve got to earn a living like everyone else."Allen was speaking at Keele University, where he and Blackpool striker DJ Campbell were holding a camp as part of Pro FC, which provides opportunities for aspiring professional footballers.
