Xavi: Guardiola must stay

Barcelona midfielder Xavi has urged head coach Pep Guardiola to sign a new contract and pledge his long-term future to the European champions.

Guardiola's current deal runs out at the end of the season, with recent rumours having linked the former Barca midfielder with a move to England to join the staff of Manchester United.

Xavi told the Spanish media: "Pep is the best coach in the world and the best that this team could have. I cannot imagine Barca without Guardiola.

"Pep is a very intelligent person and he knows what to do in all moments. He will not err, he will not be egotistical because he never has been and he has always protected us a lot.

"If a contract extension presents itself, he will take it, but if not he will wait."
