Xavi: Barca still the team to beat
06 Sep 2010 - 16:03:15
Vice-captain Xavi claims Barcelona are once again the favourites to win the La Liga title.
The Spain midfielder believes that, despite another summer of major investment at perennial rivals Real Madrid, the Catalan club are still the team to beat.
Real have drafted Jose Mourinho in as coach and also landed World Cup trio Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, plus veteran defender Ricardo Carvalho.
"Barca are the favourites for the title because we are the current champions," claimed Xavi. "Madrid have spent a lot of money in recent years and are desperate to regain the title, but I feel comfortable being billed as the favourites. It's a challenge for us."
Barcelona have added David Villa and Javier Mascherano to their squad and Xavi observed: "We have a good squad. It's competitive and I think there are more advantages than disadvantages to having a small squad."
