Barcelona midfielder Xavi has been ruled out of Sunday's league match with Rayo Vallecano at the Nou Camp with a thigh strain, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
"After the game this Tuesday against AC Milan, the player felt a pain in his thigh and tests have confirmed he has suffered a strain that will keep him out of Sunday's game with Rayo Vallecano," said a statement on the club's website.
The 33-year-old had just returned to the starting line-up for the 4-0 win against the Italians after missing the previous two games with a hamstring problem.
However, it is hoped that he will still be fit for Spain's World Cup qualifiers against Finland and France on March 22 and 26 respectively.
