The Colombian singer emerged in the late 1990s. She is the highest selling Colombian artist of all time and also the second most successful Latin singer after Gloria Estefan.
Her first major single 'Whenever, Wherever' became the best-selling single of 2002 in the UK. Her 2003 album Laundry Service also sold over 13 million copies worldwide.
Her album 'She Wolf' and the single by the same name were both a huge commercial success after being released in 2009. With a predominantly English track list she had built up major popularity in English speaking countries as well as her own.
She is currently dating Barcelona and Spain centre back Gerard Pique after she confirmed their relationship in March 2011 on Twitter. Shakira is 10 years older than her boyfriend, something which neither are at all concerned about.
