Van Bommel: Franck favours Barca

Former Barcelona midfielder Mark van Bommel claims Bayern Munich team-mate Franck Ribery is keen on a move to the Nou Camp. The highly-rated Ribery has attracted attention from across Europe following some scintillating performances for Bayern, with the likes of Barca, Real Madrid and both Manchester clubs linked with a summer swoop for the France international. Bayern are keen to fight off any suitors for the 26-year-old, who has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2011, but are bracing themselves for a big-money bid this summer. According to Bayern captain Van Bommel, Ribery is keen to test himself at Barca at some point - and the Dutchman believes it will be a perfect marriage. "Franck has told me that he wants to play at Barcelona," said Van Bommel, who spent one season at Barca in 2005/06 before switching to Bayern. "He is a very important player for us and the best in Germany. His style of play fits perfectly with that of Barcelona, because he has a lot of skill and a lot of strength. "Moreover, I think it would be good for Barca if they bought him, I'm sure he would adapt very well," added Van Bommel on radio station RAC-1. Van Bommel was talking ahead of Tuesday's clash between Barca and Bayern in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Bayern trail 4-0 following their first leg mauling at the Nou Camp, and Van Bommel admits his side only have a glimmer of hope of making it into the last four. "We went to the Nou Camp and we played with fear, when clearly you cannot do that against a team like Barca. I thought we were lucky only to be 4-0 down at half-time," he said. "We are going to try and win (in the second leg), but it will be very difficult to get through to the semi-finals."
