The Russian Premier League champions pulled off arguably the greatest surpirse in world football for quite some time.
Going into the match, Kazan had not won a Champions League match in their history. Gokdeniz Karadeniz struck a second-half winner as Rubin Kazan claimed arguably one of the biggest shocks in Champions League history over reigning European and Spanish Champions Barcelona. An upset had been on the cards two minutes into the game when Rubin took the surprise lead through Alexander Ryazantsevs long-range piledriver. Out of the nowhere, the Kazan player hit a shot goal bound, that flew straight into Victor Valdes' top right corner.
Barcelona eventually leveled courtesy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the big Swede may of not had the best of times at Barca, but he drew his side back in a game where they looked to not being able to score! However, Rubin eventually took the lead againg through Karadeniz Gokdeniz. He received a delightful through ball and placed the ball in the far corner past a desperate Victor Valdes. Kazan had shocked the world with a win over Barcelona.
Key Player: Alexander Ryazantsevs
Not many people can brag to have scored a goal like that. But in the second minute against a team like Barcelona for a team like Rubin Kazan? The Russian footballer took an audacious attempt from all of 35 yards and smashed the ball into the top right corner. Without a goal like that so early on to disrupt Barca's passing game, who knows how the game would have turned out?
