Puyol undergoes knee surgery

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Saturday, the injury which has already ruled the veteran defender out of Euro 2012.

"Carles Puyol had an operation on Saturday morning. The Barcelona captain underwent arthroscopy to clean out the right knee," said a club statement.

Surgeons confirmed that the Spanish international will need six weeks to fully recover, ruling him out of Euro 2012 as well as the King's Cup final against Athletic Bilbao on May 25.

"The aim now is have him ready for the start of next season in the best possible condition," said club doctor Ricard Pruna.
