Pep: Maradona still the best

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola claims Lionel Messi still has some way to go before he can be regarded as better than Diego Maradona.

Messi is currently being hailed as the best player in the world following his stunning form for the Spanish champions and Argentina.

However, Guardiola doubts whether the 22-year-old forward can yet be regarded as a better player than his legendary compatriot.

"The comparison with the best players of all time can only be made when he retires," he said.

"For my generation, Maradona is the greatest that we have seen and I don't think that will change.

"We have to let Leo get on with his career because he is very young and we need to give him continuity, for the good of the game."
