Monreal welcomes Benfica link

Osasuna's Spain international left-back Nacho Monreal has welcomed talk of interest in him from reigning Portuguese champions Benfica.

The 24-year-old current contract runs out at the end of next season and Monreal is open to the possibility of a fresh challenge.

He told Record: "The interest of the Lisbon club makes me feel flattered and it would definitely be a step forward in my career.

"They are the best club in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe, so it would be good if this scenario became a reality.

"I do not know if I'm going to leave at the end of the season. I love being with Osasuna, because I have spent a lot of time here and I feel comfortable.

"I know that the club are trying to renew my contract, but let's see what happens."
