Lionel Messi believes Real Madrid's shock exit from the Champions League should serve as a warning to Barcelona, who face Stuttgart next week.

Real were held to a 1-1 draw by Lyon in their last-16 second leg encounter on Wednesday as they exited the competition 2-1 on aggregate.

Barcelona drew their first leg clash in Germany 1-1 but Messi is wary of the Bundesliga side's quality.

The Argentina international said: "We have a match against Stuttgart in which nothing is definite and we need to take what happened at the Bernabeu as a warning. We have to keep our feet on the ground and think of ourselves.

"We always try to approach each match with humility. Last year we had the fortune of winning everything, but this year we start at nothing and we have to work hard to win thing.

"We are playing well at the moment but are not achieving results."
