Barcelona striker Lionel Messi has become embroiled in controversy after appearing to spit at Duda during Barcelona's 4-1 victory at Malaga.

The 21-year-old Argentina international was caught by television cameras spitting in the direction of Portuguese defender Duda who had been marking him throughout the match.

Barca's victory at Malaga was their seventh successive three-point haul in La Liga and they have now scored 28 goals in their nine matches.

Messi has found the net six times so far this season, three less than top-scorer Samuel Eto'o, who continues to be linked with a Camp Nou exit.
