Barcelona sensation Lionel Messi has told Liverpool that they must sell Javier Mascherano to the Catalan giants.
The La Liga giants have turned their attention to signing the schemer from the Premier League club after their efforts to lure Cesc Fabregas to Camp Nou earlier in the summer failed.
Messi and Mascherano are international team-mates with Argentina and the diminutive striker believes it would be for the best if he was allowed to depart for Spain.
Messi said: "Javier won't play for the club again, I can assure you of that and I think the Liverpool coach knows that now.
"Javier's family are unhappy and the pressure of seeing that is making him depressed. Liverpool must act humanely and let him go."
