Messi speaks on life at Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi, speaking at a publicity event organised by EA Sports made some revealing comments that allowed us a tantalising glimpse into the thinking of a footballing genius. Messi, interviewed by a Portugese reporter made some rare comments on a broad line of questioning, from his desire to stay at Barcelona to his ‘rivalry’ with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi’s contract is the least of his worries, “To my knowledge, there is still nothing” [Regarding his contract, which ends in June 2016]. “My contract doesn’t worry me in the least, I know what I want.”

The journalist asked him which Portuguese club he would go to, if the chance ever came. Messi who lets face it must be asked this question of every national league was reluctant to show any sign that he 'admires' any other club or harbours any desire to transfer if the offer was right. Instead he again insisted he had never thought about it, repeating his plan is to stay at the Camp Nou.

When asked if he would vote for himself for the Ballon D’or, like Cristiano Ronaldo said he would if he could, Messi answered “Obviously I wouldn’t, that’s why I voted for the people I thought I should vote for” He voted for Andrés Iniesta, Xavi and Manchester City’s Kun Aguero.

Messi believes his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t exist, but it is more the work of the media that want to create a rivalry between two players. “I don’t compete with Cristiano” he explains “I just try and do the best for my club team and for my national team.”

In recent weeks, Messi’s relationship with fellow teammate David Villa has been put into question after their infamous argument [They argued with each other on the pitch in Barcelona’s match against Granada]. However according to Messi there is nothing more to be said on the subject “I already said what I had to say, I don’t owe anyone any explanations so people can think what they want.”

Lastly he wished his former trainer Pep Guardiola the best of luck, when asked about the possibility of Guardiola’s return to coaching Messi said that “he is the best manager in the world, so wherever he goes, he will do an excellent job.”
