Four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi scored twice, including one brilliant individual effort, in his first start of the year as Barcelona extended their advantage over Getafe in their Copa del Rey last 16 tie.

Barca were already leading 4-0 from the first-leg thanks in part to two goals from Messi on his first appearance in two months at the Camp Nou last week where he came off the bench.

The diminutive Argentine opened the scoring when he turned home Cristian Tello's cross at the near post to give the visitors the lead two minutes before half-time.

And the best was still to come from Messi as he skipped past three Getafe defenders before rounding goalkeeper Jordi Codina to make it 2-0 just after the hour mark.

However, it was far from a perfect evening for the Catalans as Brazilian forward Neymar had to be carried from the field after suffering a nasty looking right ankle sprain midway through the first-half.
