Messi magic breaks Bayern as Pep suffers loss on Barca return

Leo Messi showed once again why he is regarded the world over as possibly the greatest footballer ever.

The argentine struck a late brace past the the worlds best keeper Manuel Neuer and assisted Neymar for the third goal soon after.

It was an emotional night to begin with as former Barcelona and now Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola returned to his old stomping ground in his quest to secure another Champions League trophy for the Bundesliga champions.

The game was fairly even and both teams played with the attractive and attacking style the world has admired them for, but it was the little magician Messi that came up with the goods when most needed to send the Catalans into the second leg with a 3-0 scoreline.

We should be used to it by now, surely? Yet somehow the record four times Ballon d'Or winner still manages to surprise and leave jaws heavily on the floor. The first goal being a more of a straight forward pop shot into Neuer's far left corner, and the second as nothing short of genius.

Munich have an abundance of beyond world-class talents in their ranks, however all it took was a quick shimmy and a divine chip shot to make the Bavarians look like Sunday league players recovering from a sever hangover.

Pep spoke openly of his admiration of Messi before the game stating that no team could contain or handle the number 10 in any way shape or form, which probably won't go down as the greatest pep talk (pun intended) ever but one that will certainly be understood by most within the game. The times and trophies the two won together while at the Nou Camp will live long in the memory but the night his greatest protege carved his hapless side apart with leave a sour taste in Guardiola's mouth.

Last season in the semi-final it was Ronaldo & Real Madrid who ended Munich's dream of reaching Lisbon, it would be more painful to have it ended against the club he grew up at and by a manager in his debut season in Pep's old seat.

But for now at least the world can once again rejoice in awe at one of the most special players to ever grace a football pitch. Lionel Andrés Messi.
