Barcelona remained 10 points behind Real Madrid on Sunday after winning 2-1 at Atletico Madrid thanks to a Lionel Messi free-kick 10 minutes from time.
Dani Alves opened the scoring on 36 minutes but Radamel Falcao levelled the scores at the beginning of the second-half for the home team.
Real Madrid had earlier beaten Rayo Vallecano 1-0 with a sensational backheeled goal from Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
