Guardiola won't be drawn on refs
08 Feb 2010 - 07:06:21
Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola is refusing to be drawn into a row concerning the standard of refereeing in La Liga, despite seeing his side reduced to nine men during Saturday's 2-1 win over Getafe.
Barca maintained their five-point advantage at the top of the table despite losing both Gerard Pique and substitute Rafael Marquez during a tempestuous encounter at the Camp Nou.
"I prefer to enjoy the fantastic wins we've had over the last few months," said Guardiola when asked to comment on the two dismissals.
"It's bad for the game if all week we are talking about doubts. The referees do their best, but they can make mistakes just like anybody else.
"I've said a thousand times that the referees just don't exist. It makes no difference if we are down to ten or nine.
"If the referee blows three penalties against us we've just got to go and score one more. We are Barca and we have to get through all of that.
"What happens is our responsibility. We're responsible for what's good and what's bad. Whilst I'm in charge, that's the way it will always be."
