Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola thanked his players for making him look good after they secured a 3-1 Copa del Rey victory at Atletico Madrid.

A superb hat-trick from Argentina forward Lionel Messi helped Barca to a solid away win in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.

Afterwards, Guardiola paid tribute to his players, who have also helped the Catalans to an 11-point lead at the top of the Primera Liga table, as well as qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A modest Guardiola admitted: "I was merely chosen to train these players.

"They are the ones who make the coaching staff look good and they are the ones who make this club great.

"My job is to ensure they never lower their standards and that they always have the same winning spirit. I'm just lucky to be able to lead this team."

Meanwhile, Barca have denied having fielded an official offer from Manchester City for Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure.
