Cesc Fabregas spoke of his delight after coming off the bench to score a brilliant goal and secure Barcelona the UEFA Super Cup against Porto.

The former Arsenal player took a pass from Lionel Messi on his chest before volleying home for a 2-0 victory.

It is the second piece of silverware Fabregas has won in 10 days and he said: "I didn't really come here just to win trophies, I am just very happy to score a goal and happy for the team."

He added: "I've not played with Messi for some time but I played with him for five years before so trust me I know him. He sees special passes and scores special goals, and I took the chance and he saw me."

Messi had scored in the first half and Barca coach Pep Guardiola described the second as "a beautiful goal".

He said: "Cesc is a very, very good player. He has everything it takes to play good football in midfield and arrive behind the main striker.

"His goal was a very good pass from Leo and then a very good piece of control from Cesc because he controlled the ball quickly and shot very well.

"We have tried to help him get into the best condition as soon as possible and he will help us try to make a very good season.

"It's a special generation because these are not only great players they are also friends. It is not easy to build a team but most are friends from a long time ago. That's a very good thing for us because when there are problems friends can solve them quickly."
