David Beckham starts for Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona at the Parc des Princes here on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old English midfield star, who won the competition with Manchester United in 1999, replaces Marco Verratti, 17 years his junior, in the only surprise in coach Carlo Ancelotti's first X1.

Beckham is making his first Champions League appearance since turning out for AC Milan in their 4-0 loss to United at Old Trafford in a last 16 second leg tie in 2010.

For Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez steps in for suspended forward Cristian Tello while coach Tito Vilanova returns to the dug out after a two-month absence for cancer treatment in New York.
