Barcelona to swoop for Everton star

Barcelona are well placed , just two points behind Atletico in La Liga and two ahead of arch rivals Real Madrid. Their defensive record could be seen as a cause for concern being just the second best in the league behind the miserly Atletico which seems to explain the sorrowful looks of Barca fans these days.

Which brings us neatly to the young Everton defender John Stones, who is set to become the subject of intense interest from the Spanish giants say the Daily Mail with two weeks remaining in the transfer window. Interest from Barcelona could not only test the resolve of the Toffees but also could encourage Chelsea to return to the table after having a bid rejected.

Stones has been compared by Gerard Pique to Rio Ferdinand and is not without his admirers from Barca fans with 75 percent behind a bid to sign the player back in November by Spanish outlet 'Sport' . It is thought that Barcelona are willing to wait until the Summer to get their man should Everton and Stones agree terms.

Barcelona have since sent scouts to watch the player with their sporting director Roberto Fernandez reportedly receiving a glowing report on a defender considered one of the best young talents in Europe.

Everton have so far resisted all comers despite a significant £38m offering from Chelsea and the player himself asking to leave. Watch this space!
