Barcelona tell new signing Neymar to bulk up

Barcelona new boy Neymar Jr. has been told he needs to put on a few pounds ahead of the La Liga campaign next season.

The Brazilian ace passed his medical with Barca earlier this month after a €57million move from Santos.

However, Barcelona doctor, Richard Pruna, says the slender striker needs to gain a few pounds in order to keep with European football’s physical nature.

Speaking to the Spanish media, Pruna said: “My first impression is that Neymar needs to gain a pound or two.

He weighs 64.5 kilos and he has a tendency to lose weight. Perhaps he needs to add a kilo or two, but I can’t say how many.”

Hopefully we’ll see Neymar follow in the footsteps of the great Cristiano Ronaldo.

Like Neymar, Ronaldo arrived in to a physical league with hardly any substantial threat about him.

“A thin wiry boy” as Gary Neville recalls. Then over summer, Ronaldo proceeded to bulk up and add a whole new side to his game. He continued to burn through defenders, whilst holding them off if need be.

There is no doubt that Neymar has an immense amount of ability and don’t forget, he’s still only 21-years-old.

But, I feel, for Neymar to make the cut in Europe, It’s vital that he builds upon the physical side of his game.
