Barcelona's Dutch winger Ibrahim Afellay will be out of action for four to five weeks after suffering a thigh injury, the club said Sunday.
The 25-year-old, signed from PSV Eindhoven in December, suffered the tear in his left thigh muscle during Barcelona's 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in a friendly in Washington DC on Saturday.
"The thigh injury to Ibrahim Afellay was confirmed this morning, with club doctors predicting a four to five week lay-off for the Dutch winger," the club said in a statement on its website.
He will miss the Spanish Supercup against arch-rivals Real Madrid on August 14 and 17, and the European Supercup against Porto on August 26.
Afellay, who is of Moroccan descent, has taken part in all four of Barcelona's pre-season games so far.
