Barca suffer Abidal agony

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal could be out of action until mid-April after being stretchered off the pitch during the first half of the shock defeat to Espanyol.

The 29-year-old France international injured his right leg in a 24th-minute clash with Sergio Sanchez and it is believed he will be sidelined for two months.

Abidal will undergo more tests to determine the severity of the problem.

To add to Barca'a woes, their 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Espanyol, only their second loss of the campaign, allowed Real Madrid, 6-1 winners against Real Betis, to cut the gap at the top of the table to seven points.
