Barca aim to retain pair

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is determined to tie midfield duo Xavi and Sergio Busquets down to new long-term contracts. Vice-captain Xavi has been an established fixture in the Catalan club's first team for a number of seasons, while rising star Busquets has earned plenty of plaudits after making the step up from the youth set-up this year. "I think that the negotiations need to be pushed forward in the interest of both parties," said Laporta. "Xavi and Busquets are two players of the present and future and I think that they feel very clearly that their priority is Barcelona and that they will be with us for many more years. "We will make every effort to retain them."
