Barcelona have been fined 30,000 euros by UEFA over the behaviour of their fans during the Champions League final.

The governing body announced on Thursday that the Catalan giants had been fined by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body for a breach of Article 16 (2) (e) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.

The article states that clubs can be disciplined for "inappropriate behaviour on the part of their supporters", specifically: "The use of gestures, words, objects or any other means to transmit any message that is not fit for a sports event, particularly messages that are of a political, ideological, religious, offensive or provocative nature."

During the final on June 6, the Spanish press reported that there was a significant presence of banners supporting the independence movement in Catalonia while supporters are also reported to have been taking part in pro-independence chanting.

Barca defeated Juventus 3-1 in the final in Berlin to win their fifth European Cup.
