Abidal out of Real showpiece

Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has been dealt a blow after finding out the injury he sustained in the Champions League quarter-final second leg 4-1 win over Arsenal will rule him out of Saturday's 'El Clasico' showdown with Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old France international left-back suffered a recurrence of a thigh injury he first picked up in February and the initial diagnosis suggests he will be out for around ten days.

A statement on the club's official website said: "The injury means the French full-back will definitely miss this weekend's clash against Real Madrid and the league game the following Wednesday against Deportivo.

"He could be fit to reappear in the derby game against Espanyol or in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan set for April 20."
